The Hillside Flower

		High above the timberline
amid the lichens and the moss
		stands the single hillside flower.
Proud and tall for one so small,
		master of his mountainside,
		lustily he makes his stand
and sings his colors to his friend.

		"I love you, Rabbit.
Pause awhile and take me in
but touch me not for I am king.
My fragrance is a royal thing
		I give to you alone.
When the sun has gone to bed
come and worship at my feet.
I'll feed your senses and your soul.
You can nibble at my toes.
We can keep each other warm
		until tomorrow's dawn."
