After A Long Day's Hike

		Midnight in the Smokies
		on the Appalachian Trail,
the moon is smiling through the clouds
as the light begins to fail.

Soon the darkness claims the night
		and whispers fill the trees,
the branches moaning with the weight
		of a thousand memories.

		What mysteries are whispered?
		What secrets do you keep?
		What will I find tomorrow?
I close my eyes to sleep.
