Love is an ambush predator
a reticulated python coiled and camouflaged
or a hungry lioness bellying down in the high grass
at the edge of the only waterhole
patiently waiting

You and I are plains animals
endlessly trekking, building up this terrible thirst
that can only be slaked together
bending low above the savage water
nakedly sucking it in
