Stones and Memories

Try to remember the face of your lover
Uncover the puzzle whose pieces are missing
Listen to voices who echo the madness
The sound of the wind like a rattlesnake hissing

Stones against window panes brutally shatter
Mattering little to boys young and feckless
Casting them harder the better to break them
Awaken the maiden who wears the gold necklace

She comes to the window and peers through the curtain
Uncertain goddess receives the night's warning
Borne on the west wind the voices still echo
The cries of a lover now silenced at morning
