The Times When Love Hurts

Sitting in the shadow of a dream I never dreamed
Calling out to ears that will not hear
The truth is somehow hidden, not exactly what it seemed
Before the time it blended into fear

Thinking on a matchbox life, waiting on a spark
Exploding in the eyes that will not see
Trip the light fantastic while I'm dancing in the dark
Butterfly still trying to fly free

Wounded in the battle by a man who will not die
Bleeding on the only perfect rose
Hide among the blankets of the bed I occupy
Looking out the window counting crows

Lost along the riverbank, a vision in my mind
Reaching for the mouth that will not smile
Clutching at a ray of hope, tomorrow may be kind
Till then I guess I'm walking single file
